The UAE ID Card is another name for the Emirates ID. It’s made up of a 15-digit number, an electronic chip, your portrait, and personal information. The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship issues the card (FAIC). You must carry this card with you at all times if you live in the emirates. The card’s electrical chip can store up to 32 thousand letters of data. Some data is encrypted, and only authorised individuals and organisations have access to it. As a result, the card becomes your personal database.

If you recently renewed your Emirates ID, you may have noticed that receiving your hard copy is taking a bit longer than usual. That’s because the Emirates ID has undergone a complete makeover, and the new edition has been unveiled.

On Saturday, the debut of the enhanced card was announced. The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) unveiled the “new and enhanced” Emirates ID card’s primary features.

People have been able to view an electronic copy of their Emirates ID card on the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) app while the Emirates ID card was receiving its new facelift. For citizens and residents of the United Arab Emirates, the Emirates ID is a legal necessity.

The following are the five main features of the new card:

• Improved non-visible data protection: Data can now be read through the E-link system with the ICA.
•  A high-quality card with a longer lifespan: The card is constructed of polycarbonate, which extends its lifespan to over ten years.
•  A consolidated 3D photo: The holder’s date of birth will be used to authenticate the laser printing feature.
• Advanced technical and technological features: The chip on the card will have a larger capacity and non-touch data reading capabilities.
•  Definition of new fields and codes: Professional data, issuing authority, and population group are examples of new information.

The Emirates ID is a government-issued identification card that is required by law for all UAE citizens and residents.

After a Cabinet meeting headed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, new designs for Emirati passports and Emirates IDs were originally announced in November last year.

The new identity cards include major changes aimed at combating identity theft and enhancing national and international travel document security.
